So if you haven’t noticed, I can’t stop myself from photographing the Blue Angels as they streak across the sky… Sunday was a day with my family and we loaded up the car and headed to Mercer Island to enjoy the airshow from a perfectly situated dock of my relatives. Needless to say my two-year-old likes airplanes and cameras so he didn’t care if Daddy worked during the show. Here is a quick edit from the performance Sunday along with some boats, people and additional aircraft. Enjoy! More photos after the jump…
Making portraits on location is always about thinking on your feet, and recent photo assignments for The Scene magazine of a princess and a novelist had me jumping due to rain. Above, Isabella Figueroa, a member of the Miss Hisapanic Seafair Royal Court, was photographed at the Bellevue Arts Museum (BAM) in front of artist Lacey Jane Roberts installation We Couldn’t Get In. We Couldn’t Get out. The original plan was to be outside at the Bellevue Botanical Gardens. More photos after the jump…
It’s spring time here in the Pacific Northwest and we’ve had a particularly cloudy stretch to start the seasonal change. Thought I’d take a minute to share a couple of snapshots from the last few days pausing to take in the momentary sun breaks. Above, the power line trail in Redmond on Wednesday. April 6, 2011. Racers break from the starting line of the 10K race during the annual Rotary Run on Mercer Island on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Last year, I shared my assignment that focused purely on a cover photo for the Mercer Island Reporter. This year I was tasked to get broad coverage, so that meant being in the thick of things near the race start and event village at the Community Center at Mercer View. More photos after the jump…
A multimedia piece on the WSDOT Incident Response Team from a recent ride along. It was a nasty, wet morning commute with few incidents, which was a great thing for drivers, but definitely low drama for visuals. That said, it is always a good day when everyone makes it home safely.
It’s good to remember your surroundings while waiting for a meeting or event, as is the case with this photo of the sunrise over Mt. Rainer. I was waiting to photograph singer John Legend on the fourth floor of the Meydenbauer Center in downtown Bellevue on Monday when I captured this view.
A near full moon rises behind the lights at Islander Stadium on Mercer Island on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Last night, September 22, was a Super Harvest Moon, an event that won’t occur again until 2029. Of course we had a regional cloud cover here that blocked the moonrise, and I get to chalk another in a string of astronomy photography misses for myself including the “bombing” of the moon and the recent Northern Lights that were weaker than expected.
It must be Seafair when the windows rattle, the ground shakes and the I-90 bridge closes. Welcome to the annual U.S. Navy Blue Angels airshow! I have to admit I look forward to chasing fast planes across the sky with my camera each summer, as the jet engine noise pummels my eardrums. Today ‘s blog post is stuffed full of photos from the two practice sessions on Thursday. MORE PHOTOS AFTER THE JUMP…
Friday night found me on assignment shooting the FSA Grand Prix races at the Veldrome at Marymoor Park in Redmond. Between the beautiful summer evening and a subject matter I had only heard about from friends in cycling circles — but had never photographed — meant I was actually happy to be working a night shift to start my weekend.
