Bill Wyvel, a Marymoor Radio Control Club (MAR/C) member, talks to a friend (not pictured) as he prepares for a test flight of a Hobbistar 60 MK III training model radio control airplane at Marymoor Park in Redmond on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Wyvel was testing the plane after installing a new engine.

January 18th, 2012 at 4:17 pm by Chad Coleman

Horses and artists perform a mix a quiet theater and fast equestrian action during a press screening of Cavalia at Marymoor Park in Redmond on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. More photos after the jump…

Geese take flight at Marymoor Park | Photo of the Day

January 18th, 2012 at 1:29 pm by Chad Coleman

Canadian geese take flight in the falling snow at Marymoor Park in Redmond on Tuesday, January 17, 2012. A field full of geese took flight as I was heading into an photo assignment for a press performance of Cavalia, and only had a moment to blindly up my shutter speed and squeeze off a few frames, luckily capturing this monochromatic image.

Christmas tree tie down | Photo of the Day

December 2nd, 2011 at 6:14 pm by Chad Coleman

Bill Bastine, of Sammamish, secures a tree with twine to his vehicle at McMurtrey’s Red-Wood Christmas Tree Farm in Redmond on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. This is one of my favorite images from a photo assignment at a local tree tree farm… you can see more images in a slideshow on the Redmond Reporter site.

Pumpkin patch at Serres Farm in Redmond

October 19th, 2011 at 4:07 pm by Chad Coleman

Above, Sally Roos, age 4, takes her picks to a wheelbarrow at the pumpkin patch at Serres Farm in Redmond on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Sure as the seasons change, I got the call to photograph a stand alone feature photo of a pumpkin farm. I have to admit it was a nice, quiet afternoon in the country as nearly every other area photojournalist was crowding along a walkway at Sea-Tac airport for the return home of Amanda Knox. Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney talks trade at Microsoft

October 14th, 2011 at 2:25 pm by Chad Coleman

Above, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney speaks about trade during an appearance at Microsoft in Redmond on Thursday, October 13, 2011. The media was out in full force for Romney’s stop here in Washington state yesterday. Not knowing if members of the press would be restricted in movement around the room, I carried the big glass — a 400mm, f/2.8 — that is most used on the sports sidelines. Surprisingly, we photographers had good freedom of movement, but I had hauled the heavy glass, so I was going to shoot it. I know a personal habit is to shoot a wide angle lens a lot, so going ‘tight’ was good mental exercise. I enjoyed making some nice detail shots of the candidate. More photos after the jump…

Horse riding meets therapy at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

September 29th, 2011 at 10:13 am by Chad Coleman

Andrew (last name withheld) rides a horse during an indoor hippotherapy session as Deb Peet Walker, of Bear Creek Children’s Therapy, center, instructor Kara Quigly, in green hat and volunteers Galen Mickelsen, at far left, and Andi Davis assist at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Woodinville on Tuesday, September 20, 2011. This image was made during an assignment about Little Bit’s expansion into the city of Redmond. I really enjoyed learning about the therapy and watching the riders – I could have photographed all day – but alas welcome to the world of deadlines. More photos of riders at the current facility and the new construction after the jump…

Bubbles

August 22nd, 2011 at 11:54 am by Chad Coleman

Above, Ose Esangbedo, 11, of Sammamish, creates bubbles during Day of Play outside City Hall in Redmond on Friday, August 19, 2011. Just wanted to share a fun photo from an recent photo assignment. A pleasant surprise during my edit, it brings a smile to my face when I see it. I really like the way the bubble mimics the shape of his smile.

Fire at the PSE substation in Redmond

June 17th, 2011 at 10:42 am by Chad Coleman

Yesterday while working at my desk at the Bellevue Reporter the power surged and lights flickered… the culprit was a fire at a Puget Sound Energy electrical substation in Redmond. As I checked the address information of the fire, I knew Willows Road would be shut down, so I took a quick look at Google maps and found a trail through the woods above the scene. Access plan worked great as I had easy parking, no police lines and got a decent view of the scene. More photos after the jump…

The Mount Si High School Wildcats celebrate two early runs after Trevor Lane (2) beat a throw to the plate during the WIAA 3A state baseball championship game at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, May 28, 2011. Mount Si beat Shorewood 5-4 for the state title.

It was prep spring sports state tournament time this past weekend, and I covered baseball at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, and softball at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. Here are some of my favorite images and moments from the weekned. More photos after the jump…
