Mount Rainier, a cloud and a plane | Photo of the Day

August 24th, 2011 at 4:22 pm by Chad Coleman

Earlier today I was leaving an assignment in Redmond and saw a great cloud cap on Mt. Rainier, so I pointed the car towards Mercer Island and my next assignment. Due to some minor breaking news, I got to the South end of the Island after the cloud had shifted and started to break up, but still got this frame for my personal “photo of the day.”

Blue Angels, boats and sunshine

August 8th, 2011 at 11:18 am by Chad Coleman

So if you haven’t noticed, I can’t stop myself from photographing the Blue Angels as they streak across the sky… Sunday was a day with my family and we loaded up the car and headed to Mercer Island to enjoy the airshow from a perfectly situated dock of my relatives. Needless to say my two-year-old likes airplanes and cameras so he didn’t care if Daddy worked during the show. Here is a quick edit from the performance Sunday along with some boats, people and additional aircraft. Enjoy! More photos after the jump…

The Blue Angels and more aircraft fly for Seafair

August 5th, 2011 at 5:44 pm by Chad Coleman

Another day of chasing the U.S. Navy Blue Angels across the sky had mean feeling a little deja vu, as last year’s weather was the same for the airshow — sunny Thursday, cloudy Friday. Above, the Blue Angels practice their Seafair airshow routine over Lake Washington on Friday, August 5, 2011. More photos after the jump…

The Blue Angels under a grey sky | August 6, 2010

August 6th, 2010 at 8:08 pm by Chad Coleman

Today the U.S Navy Blue Angels flew a “flat” performance under grey a grey sky that prevented them from doing any high aerial maneuvers. I ventured out onto the bridge deck of Interstate 90 on the Mercer Island side of the Eastbound lanes. This is a quick post, that I will update early next week. Enjoy the weekend! The Blue Angels take flight for Seafair | Aug. 5, 2010

August 6th, 2010 at 11:22 am by Chad Coleman

It must be Seafair when the windows rattle, the ground shakes and the I-90 bridge closes. Welcome to the annual U.S. Navy Blue Angels airshow! I have to admit I look forward to chasing fast planes across the sky with my camera each summer, as the jet engine noise pummels my eardrums. Today ‘s blog post is stuffed full of photos from the two practice sessions on Thursday. MORE PHOTOS AFTER THE JUMP…

People and Places 2009

December 31st, 2009 at 2:41 pm by Chad Coleman

It is that time of year where everyone reflects on the past year and best-of and top story lists dominate the media landscape. In this spirit I’m adding my personal .02 cents on my favorite people, assignments and places for 2009. Maybe not always a big story, but things that I’ll remember past the calender page turn. In no particular order of importance let’s roll back the clock… More after the jump.

The Blue Angels soar above Lake Washington

August 11th, 2009 at 2:30 pm by Chad Coleman

One of the largest –and loudest– draws to the region is Seafair culminating in hydroplane races on Lake Washington and the annual visit of the Blue Angels, an elite group of U.S. Navy pilots that perform airshow across the country. Here are some quick hits from this year’s assignment photographing the action and faces.
