Transition Academy Graduation | Multimedia

June 25th, 2010 at 12:10 pm by Chad Coleman

Here is a recent multimedia piece I produced about the Lake Washington School District’s Transition Academy Graduation on June 10. This was the final piece in an ongoing series about the program by the Redmond Reporter that started in the fall of 2009. I photographed several assignments this spring for the series including a recent graduate on his work out regimen.

I have much to learn and improve during my transition from a photojournalist to visual journalist. It is an ongoing, self-taught process gleaning knowledge from blogs and people established in the field, mixed with a bunch of trial & error. It is a bumpy road these days, but I hope that will smooth out with time invested and experience.

Raising the Big Top for Cirque du Soleil | Time-Lapse

May 28th, 2010 at 10:37 am by Chad Coleman

Yesterday I was assigned to photograph the raising of the big top tent for the new Cirque du Soleil production of KOOZA at Marymoor Park in Redmond. As I pulled up to parking lot it dawned on me to try to make a time-lapse of the raising. Not to shabby for a first attempt, but definitely learned a few things, including a”duh” moment when I forgot to lock my focus ring. You can see a few changes of autofocus in the last part of the time-lapse. Check it out, and I hope to find an assignment that will provide the opportunity to try again.
